Carey, Widdecombe and other throwbacks

Yesterday, whilst I was blissfully unaware of what was going on (thanks to the effects of Midazolam and the skill of my my oral surgeons) former archbishop of Canterbury, George Carey spoke at a fringe meeting in Birmingham where the Tory party conference is taking place. The crowd suitably whipped up to a frenzy by the arms aloft stance and fevered rhetoric of Miss Widecombe (who’s never been married, by the way) slavered over every word uttered by the ever scowling George. Visions of a Nuremberg rally and Cristalnacht were countered up…
