Self-evaluation and a cuddlier friendlier HMIe ?

Posted by: mimanifesto on: September 25, 2008

I suppose everyone is going to be blogging about SLF08, and rightly so. What a fantastic event this year’s has turned out to be.  I’m going to be writing a little (!) about my thoughts over the next week or so but I’m going to start with something I took time to check out this morning. I had been asked to have a look at the stand of a company who have produced what I think has the potential to be a really valuable time-saving tool for schools. It’s a web-based application that assists the process of school self-evaluation, very much in vogue at the moment with the new system of inspections recently announced. Basically, it ‘translates’ HGIOS3 into more understandable language and allows individual teachers to work through all the indicators, self-evaluating and collecting evidence, and it builds up into a complete record with data which can then be presented for an individual, department, faculty, or whole school. The data presentation is user-friendly providing at-a-glance views of trends and patterns across all the indicators for an establishment. It generates individual summaries as well and obviously this creates a valuable reflective record which can be used to plan for improvement through PDR. It struck me that this would provide just the kind of well collated and presented evidence that HMIE might look for from a school being inspected and as it’s web-based, it self-updates following data input from staff.  The time saving on administration and the negation of the need for manual collation and statistical analysis has quite significant positive cost benefit implications for schools and their management teams and QIO’s….

Can you remember who made this?

Yes, I have all the contact details and the presentation they used to demo the application – AMmcN asked me to check them out at SLF. The company is called Sirius Concepts Ltd. I will email you about this…
